Could I mod this to make the door opening bigger? I have Heavy-weight ducks and geese and I'm looking for a door that will accomodate a 18" x 21" opening. I'm thinking I could find aluminum sheet the same thickness and drill a hole and make my own aluminum door that is the larger dimensions that would fit in the rails of this kit.
You could do that as long as the door does not weigh more than the door included with the kit.

How do you set the number of hours for the light to be on?
When in the date and time menu, you can change the date and time by pressing the “ENTER” button. When the flashing cursor is on the date, press the “-“ or “+” to adjust it up and down. Then go to the next setting by pressing the “ENTER” button again and repeat. After setting the AM/PM setting, press “ENTER” again and the flashing cursor goes away. Then press “-” to move back to the home display.

What are the actual door opening dimensions? Can it be connected to a 12V solar power system? Can the door be installed horizontally instead of vertical?
1. The opening dimensions are "13 x "1
2. Yes, it can be connected to a solar power system. However, depending on how much sunlight that solar system receives, it may not fully open and close consistently.
3. It can be installed horizontally, although we strongly caution against doing so. There are rails that the door uses in order to slide open and closed. If these rails become congested with debris that attaches to chicken feet, the door will not open and close properly. -
Can I just buy the controller?
For this door the actuator is part of the smart control system that automatically reverses the door so the controller cannot be used with any other actuator so we do not sell it separately.

I thought the first generation of automatic doors was a wonderful invention, but this newer designed is better yet. Yesterday I was pleasantly surprised to see that it automatically changed from daylight to standard time. Now also I do not have to change timing settings every few weeks since it is also automatic. The racoons and coyotes aren’t happy though.
Always had to check whether or not it closed even with the offset times set. Had to go out a couple times and close it myself. Now it shut off and won't turn back on. Useless. Don't buy this.
Easy install, hooked up to our coop solar panel and works like a charm. Couldn’t ask for more.
I never worry about predators. My chickens are nice and snug in their coop from dusk to dawn with the automatic door. Especially when I'm away I have no concerns. Thanks Incubator Warehouse!

I purchased the solar kit and the smart door kit. The instructions are clear for the smart door kit for AC power and the instructions for the Solar kit are also clear; however, the integration of the two are not clear. I called customer service for help and resolved all my concerns. Make sure the solar control panel is set up correctly first. ISSUE: How to provide power to the Smart Door Controller Module from the solar control box. SOLUTION: Connect the cable from Solar Control Box: “Door Opener Out†to the Smart Door Control Module “Power Inâ€. I can't wait to enjoy the automated door opening/closing on a schedule.
we bought the chicken coop auto door almost 3 months ago. The main reason is because of the zip code feature: the door will be open /closed based on the sun rise and sun set, that is the natural for the chickens. All the other chicken coop auto door is based on human time, so you have to adjust the timer once every two months. The second feature of lay light is improve the egg produce in the winter. The quality of the door is very good.
I have 18 hens and I really enjoy them. I've been a chicken lady for 6-7 years now and I try my best to give my girls a great life. Being a chicken lady makes it hard to get away for the weekend because I want to make sure everything is taken care of for my girls. This summer I wanted to automate my chicken care set-up so I read up on various automatic coop doors and the Incubator Warehouse is great. Many of the competing coop doors use a string to open the door, yes string how secure is that? It is easy to set up and use and it has really made caring for my chickens much easier and more secure. If you have chickens, this is a must have. Door operates on you setting the timer to open and close. It allows you freedom from worry if you are going to be away and concerned about predators. I recommend it!
