GQF Box Brooders are designed to eliminate stress in young birds by providing plenty of heat, fresh air, light, feed and water space, and sanitary conditions for a confined area. Three clear plastic panels allow full and easy viewing of the brooder’s interior. Each brooder comes with three 28.5' troughs which maybe used for either feed or water. Ample feed and water space is necessary to allow weaker chicks access in the presence of more dominant chicks. Any trough may be equipped with optional automatic watering to provide the large quantity of water necessary. Failure to provide proper feed and water space can result in slower weight gain and perhaps higher chick mortality. The troughs are mounted on the outside of the brooder so that the chicks do not mix droppings into the food or water. The 300-watt heater provides sufficient heat while the vented plastic side panels keep out drafts. As chicks are drawn to light rather than heat, each heater has a socket for a low wattage attraction light bulb (2 bulbs included), which helps to hold the chicks in the heated area. Each brooder comes with an easy to use Digital Thermostat. The floor is a thin wire ½” mesh which will allow droppings to easily pass through. For small chicks like quail this floor requires that a layer of No 1628 DACB paper or paper towels be laid down on the wire for the first 4 to 7 days after which quail may stand on the ½” wire floor. The IncuKit XL ™ is an all-in-one kit designed to be the heart and brains of a homemade cabinet incubator. It allows you to convert a cabinet-sized enclosure into an incubator! To make your own incubator, you can use anything from an old refrigerator to a custom built cabinet! Simply choose your enclosure and install your IncuKit XL™ unit inside. Pretty cool? Did you know that at any given time, the temperature in your Little Giant still air incubator can vary by up to five degrees from top to bottom and from the center to the corners? This occurs primarily because heat rises. Unfortunately, this temperature variation can have a significant negative impact on your hatch rates. This problem can be significantly reduced by installing a circulated air fan kit into your incubator. This fan circulates the air, which helps keep your whole incubator the same temperature. This can have a positive impact on hatch results. The more consistent air temperature also ensures that your thermostat is cycling on and off at the appropriate times, not just when the air around the thermostat heats or cools. Putting a fan inside your incubator is a great way to increase hatch rates, but it is not just as simple as buying a PC fan or a cheap fan kit. There are a few things that you need to keep in mind: Too much air circulation is bad for eggs, as it will dry them out. Think about it this way: there isn’t a fan blowing on eggs in nature. The only reason that an incubator needs the fan is to keep the temperature more consistent (like in nature). Beware of cheap kits, which often use high-speed fans. Almost all fans on the market are designed for cooling things, so they are made to move as much air as possible. This is not what you want. If your fan is too powerful it can overheat your incubator. Fans generate heat, and alternate fans are known to cook eggs. The direction the air flows and the positioning of the fan inside your incubator is critical to maintaining a consistent temperature throughout the incubator.   Incubator Warehouse's Digital Electronic Egg Incubator Thermostat for IncuKit XL Description: This thermostat is very simple to use. Just press the up arrow to set the temperature (in 0.1 degree increments). There is a flame indicator on the screen that shows when the heater is operating. The unit has an 18 inch remote sensor that is placed inside the incubator. The white thermostat case is then mounted on the outside of the incubator. Finally you can measure the temperature right next to your eggs, not the air at the top of the incubator. This can be set to read in Celsius or Fahrenheit Comes preset to 99.5 (this means that if you lose power the thermostat will come back on set to 99.5) - Preset to 37.5 in Celsius mode Digital readout displays temperature to the tenth of a degree (examples: 98.0, 99.5) If the temperature goes over 99.9, it reads: 00.1, 00.2, 00.3, etc Designed specifically for incubators, great for small incubators AND cabinet incubators (can switch heating elements up to 225 Watts) Remote Temperature Sensor (18 inches long) 110V AC Power Temperature Switching Differential = 0.2 degrees Fahrenheit. This means if the thermostat is set to 99.5 the thermostat will turn the heat on when the thermostat sensor reads below 99.3 and turn off when the sensor reads above 99.7. NOTE: It is normal for the thermostat to turn the heater off and still have the air temperature increase a little bit. This happens because as the power to the heater turns off, the heater is still hot and will heat the air around it. The same is true when the heater turns back on: the temperature may decrease a little more as the heater gets back up to temperature. The amount this happens will depend on the thermal mass of your heating element and the amount of circulation in your incubator. Keep in mind that the air temperature may vary without a negative impact to the eggs if the variation is rapid enough to not allow the egg to heat or cool more than it should. As long as the up and down cycle is relatively small, is less than a few minutes, and the average air temperature is at your target temperature, the temperature inside your egg (which is what really matters) will be just fine! This is true with any incubator and egg configuration. Calibration Enabled. This means that you can calibrate the thermostat to a specific temperature. For example: If you have a thermometer that you trust and the digital thermostat reads a little different, you can calibrate the thermostat to match the trusted thermometer (calibrate in 0.1 degree increments up to +/- 5 degrees) Wiring and operation instructions included. It also includes instructions for installing an incubator fan, if desired. Key lock feature allows you to set the temperature and lock the keys so it cannot be changed without unlocking the keys (keys are locked by pressing both up and down buttons for 5 seconds).  

In our opinion this thermometer should only be used by those that are familiar with Wet Bulb thermometers.  According to GQF This is the most accurate incubator thermometer available and has approximately a 4' stem which can be inserted in a 5/32' hole to permit reading of temperature from outside of incubator. The 2' dial permits easy and accurate reading of temperature and is graduated in one degree increments from 25 degrees to 125 degrees.  Wicks are attached and placed in the humidity pan to allow thermometer to read wet bulb temperatures. Many people prefer to build their own incubators. This is a fun do-it-yourself project. We’ve found that the biggest difficulty people run into while developing their incubators is finding a reliable heat source and thermostat. We’ve solved this problem by creating the IncuKit™ series thermostat fan heaters. We have created the IncuKit™ MINI to turn any small container into an incubator. This provides the heat, air circulation, and thermostat control you need to accurately control the environment in your container for hatching eggs. The IncuKit™ MINI has a proportional thermostat, built-in 60-watt heater, and fan. The proportional thermostat controls the amount of power that is supplied to the heater instead of simply turning the heater off and on. How to determine the appropriate size container for the IncuKit MINI: There are several factors that determine how much power will be required to heat your container up to the appropriate temperature to hatch eggs. The size of the container, how well it is insulated, the room temperature, and how much the room temperature fluctuates will all have a significant impact. The best way to determine if the IncuKit™ MINI is the right size for your container is pretty simple. Just put a 60-watt light bulb in your container (ensure it is thermally insulated since they get pretty hot!) and measure how warm your container gets. If it easily gets to at least 100 degrees F, then the IncuKit™ MINI should work. It is the user’s responsibility to determine if this product will generate enough heat for your container.
